“9500 Liberty” tells the story of the only time in American history where an SB 1070 style law (written by the same anti-immigration lobbying firm that wrote SB 1070) was actually put into effect. For 2 months in early 2008, Prince William County implemented a law that required police to check the immigration status of its residents based on a subjective standard of suspicion. The measure was repealed by unanimous vote after the economic, legal, fiscal and public safety implications of the law became apparent.

This interview was conducted by Chuck Alton for Cochise Talk in Bisbee, Arizona.

    Part – not …
Part – not mentioned here – of the “polarization & fear” politics I believe came out of the Presidential election where “racists-in-denial” (about their racism) were being courted. It made for some odd codings and protocols in the language used, so neither speakers nor listeners would be “outed” as racists.
Some of that cropped up in what you’re discussing. Just different codings & protocols.
