Coffee with Claire for February 13, 2011

Claire is back in the saddle again, bringing you another Coffee with Claire after a brief haitus. This week, I reveal the shocking truth about why Rhymemaiden1 was closed, talk about upcoming projects and highlight the creatard currently in my sights. I also expand on my pessimism about the future of America, using the scientifically illiterate views of a young man to illustrate why I entertain little hope for the future of my nation. skinnyjohnson’s channel is at http://www.youtube.com/user/skinnyjohnsen

    Thanks for coming …
Thanks for coming back Claire! I missed you. Tom

    You’ve got to love …
You’ve got to love the absolute evidence the Appalachians offer that the bible is wrong. :)

  • nerdlass says:

    Sorry, didn’t have …
Sorry, didn’t have coffee handy while viewing this, but I enjoyed your video, nonetheless! :)

    @JuryDutySummons …
@JuryDutySummons Good point. However, the debate over stem cell research has a lot more to do with abortion than science. Abortion being primarily about the role of women in contemporary society.

I think we all need …
I think we all need a break now and then….I almost quit a few months back, after a relationship ended…kinda glad I havent. Also glad you are still around. =)

  • BiggusRobbicus says:

    I too am a watcher …
I too am a watcher of the Appalacian Geology series, geology is one of the quieter sciences, and we rarely get good info on it that isn’t connected with earthquakes, volcanoes and similar events.

  • puncheex says:

    I’m with witchymama …
I’m with witchymama – I know that “pure” geology, or pure science of almost anykind – doesn’t sell as well as personality on the web, but I for one am glued to the Appalachian series. As a Rocky’s dweller, getting out of your niche and seeing the rest of the world is great, and with such a nice hostess, too.

I’m also depressed about the future of the USA, but I also know that popular favor can change on a dime. I do wonder whether we’ll find that dime before it’s too late.

  • puncheex says:

@WildwoodClaire1: Well, that and his prowess with a firearm.

  • KaroKoenich says:

    Don’t worry about …
Don’t worry about the dead account subscribers you lost, Claire. Consider it as a sort of “spring-cleaning”, mopping the cobwebs out of the corners of your channel. You got back to over 1.8k ACTIVE subscribers in no time. That’s an awesome number in itself, and you can be proud of that.

  • kw2798 says:

    Love your geology …
Love your geology vids. As an underground miner, I see lots of unusual folds and patterns in the rock and think to myself, “How can they claim (the fundies) that all this was manufactured?? What do they think their god was thinking?”

    Keep up the good work.

  • kw2798 says:

    Please re-upload …
Please re-upload your earlier stuff, Especially your educational geology vids and pwnage vids.

    Cheers!!

  • exacerbatedtaboo says:

    I share an equal …
I share an equal opinion with you about the future of America. I think it’s almost hopeless. You get these church goers who know jack squat about anything turned into board of education members who from their own ignorance decide to teach our kids nonsense and parents who believe the nonsense so won’t teach their kids otherwise cause they don’t believe they are wrong or that their kids are being taught pure bullshit. Then they wonder why their kids aren’t learning anything.

    @AmericanCurmudgeon …
@AmericanCurmudgeon Join the club, my grandma was bipolar and I have those moments too; thank goodness I never have the really really deep depression to the point of suicide :/

hang in there, we need your wisdom, we need someone to keep the nephys at bay

  • Inovocre12 says:

    I love your stuff, …
I love your stuff, and your right the Appalachian mountain vids you do, though are not as popular, are very educational, and if there is one thing I love is to learn any thing and everything I can! So I look forward to your next installment! Keep up the good work!!

A little side note, I too suffer from bouts of depression, hard ones, and what I do is meditate, not to any deity, for I am of the atheist persuasion! But it just helps to clear the mind and get perspective!

  • AmericanCurmudgeon says:

I know how you feel …
I know how you feel Claire. I’m a rapid cycling bi-polar and my moods can swing quite drastically–from hyper-happiness or needless anger to nihilistic depression–in a matter of a few hours.

    Neither extreme is very fun.

  • PacalB says:

    Cont: its at that …
Cont: its at that moment … you have a way into their normally “closed” dogmatic mind and you can actually put in a few more wedges to try and keep the door open and get them really thinking. :) .Hey, sorry to hear you’ve had bouts of depression there. Still, your back and it will be good to see you continue your path here.

When I get depressed, I tend to just go look at the clouds & look for a chink of blue, a simple thing but it tends to put a smile on my face and knock me out of it. :)

  • witchymama says:

    I actually DO like …
I actually DO like the Appalachian Geology series very much. I’ve watched them a couple times. The history of the earth fascinates me.

  • PacalB says:

    Hey WildwoodClaire, …
Hey WildwoodClaire, I’m one of ur newer subscribers who find ur up loads utterly fascinating. Guys like the one at the end of ur video, I’ve spoken to quite a few, I just hit them with the history angle, u know …”Your ancestors are from Africa right? A place that had its own religions, its own culture for 1000′s of years before Christianity or Islam turned up on the scene, you ever actually think about that?” This normally stops them dead in their tracks as their mind goes into overdrive.

  • christo930 says:

    If you ever feel …
If you ever feel like it, can you do a video on how the Pocono “mountains” aren’t really mountains and explain the difference between the real Appalachian mountains and Poconos. Since the Poconos are only a couple of hours drive from both NY and Philly, there are quite a few people who vacation there and I think there may be some interest in a video about the geology.

    Sorry you were …
Sorry you were having such a bad time. Wish I had something encouraging & morale-boosting to say, but I’m also pessimistic about the future of the U.S.

  • LazySundayClub says:

    “he perhaps …
“he perhaps reflects the deficiencies of the American educational system.” – Hey, I RESEMBLE that statement! ;)

  • goofyreligion3 says:

As a person who was …
As a person who was beat about the head with the Bible (and also Book of Moron, I mean Mormon); I can say that just because they’re thick and heavy doesn’t mean they’re true.

Mrs. Betty Bowers really captures the essence of the Bible. watch?v=OFkeKKszXTw Seriously good watching Clair, this’ll bring a smile to you face.
