    Ah, it takes me back. It was a typical cold, cold August day in North Beach. We lived in a penthouse on Telegraph Hill (flat landers would call it a third floor walkup). We lived like royalty – we had our own garage.

    As the wind blew the fog up Green Street we’d catch alternate whiffs of roasting beans at Caffe Trieste, then Malvina, then Graffeo, then a weird smell that was likely Club Fugazzi being aired out from the Beach Blanket Babylon show.

    It was all enough to drive one wild.
